New video series teaches practical, real-life skills to prepare for worst

Tuesday, December 3, 2013 - 0 Comments

The series is produced by Manny Edwards (a.k.a. “SnoMan”), who runs the Survival News Online blog.

“We’re going to cover everything about preparing for emergencies,” says Edwards. “The most basic skills involve calculating how much food and water you need to store, but we’re going to drill deeper too. We’ll look at hiding and recovering survival caches, gun safety, land navigation, bushcraft and so on.”

The content of Survival Tips is in some ways similar “Doomsday Preppers,” but while that show illustrates the extreme prepper, Edwards focuses his show on eminently practical ways to prepare – without selling the house and moving into a bunker.

Edwards stresses that he is not a trained survivalist; he is a lawyer, real estate agent and film producer: “I’m just teaching methodically what our grandparents practiced as a way of life. They didn’t have a term for it. They just lived it. They didn’t have electricity when they were young, so a power outage was only mildly inconvenient. You just need that same kind of flexibility in case the next ice storm takes out the power in your neighborhood.”

Philippines disaster solved by prepper experts?

Monday, December 2, 2013 - 0 Comments

The head of Ralston released a news item explaining what might be done in the case of the disasters that hit thousands of people at a time.  Here is a piece of the interview

"We have a product here, it’s called a 3S2P. A company out of Chicago that has been around for about 105 years, they put together a system for me—they came and said, "Hey I have these military-grade water-purifying systems, but they were way too expensive." They finally came up with one that is portable, lightweight, able to do some significant water purifying. This one 35-pound case can purify 2,400 gallons per day and kill basically everything in the water. A system like that would be invaluable in any survival situation like that, because water is the most important thing. So that would be the number one product that needs to be there, along with of course food and some shelter situations [that] are really in need right now."

Do you agree that water is the most important commodity to have in an emergency?

Prepper Survival Market is growing in size worldwide

Ratings on television are providing some clue as to how much interest and size this growing market is having.

The second season of Doomsday Preppers is premiering on Tuesday, 12 November at 22:55 on National Geographic, channel 181 on DStv. While one may not know when the end of the world is — these individuals are working around the clock to ensure that they and their families remain safe.

Here are upcoming highlights for the show.  In season two, individuals featured "who are committed to thinking through every contingency plan. Viewers will meet a diabetic mother stockpiling insulin to survive the devastation of an F-5 tornado she fears is coming; a 14-year-old preparing for a global economic collapse; a millionaire getting ready for a massive earthquake; and a 'Brady Bunch' type prepping family with six children who anticipate a terrorist smallpox epidemic."

Doomsday Preppers is produced by Sharp Entertainment for the National Geographic Channel. For Sharp Entertainment, the executive producer is Matt Sharp and co-executive producer is Alan Madison. For National Geographic Channels International, executive vice president and head of International Content is Hamish Mykura.

Hopefully the market and exposure of this marketplace is met with objective analysis from the main stream media.
